§ 18 FreizügG/EU: Auslesen von Daten aus Pässen und Personalausweisen durch Luftfahrtunternehmen

Reading Data From Passports by Airlines (§ 18 FreizügG/EU)
Airlines may read data from your passport or identity card for digital passenger handling. This also applies to the bodies named in § 19e para. 8 of the Aviation Act (Luftverkehrsgesetz).
Which data is read?
The personal data listed in § 19e para. 3 and 4 of the Aviation Act is read. The data may be read both from the machine-readable zone and from the chip of the document.
Which documents does this cover?
It covers passports and identity cards that a member state of the European Union has issued to its nationals. It also covers such documents from Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.
Which conditions apply?
Reading the data is only permitted under the conditions of § 19e of the Aviation Act. § 19e para. 3 sentence 3 and para. 5 of the Aviation Act apply accordingly.
Luftfahrtunternehmen sowie die in § 19e Absatz 8 des Luftverkehrsgesetzes genannten Stellen dürfen zum Zweck der digitalen Fluggastabfertigung die in § 19e Absatz 3 und 4 des Luftverkehrsgesetzes aufgeführten personenbezogenen Daten sowohl aus der maschinenlesbaren Zone als auch aus dem Chip eines Passes oder Personalausweises, den ein Mitgliedstaat der Europäischen Union oder Island, Liechtenstein oder Norwegen an seinen Staatsangehörigen ausgestellt hat, unter den Voraussetzungen des § 19e des Luftverkehrsgesetzes auslesen. § 19e Absatz 3 Satz 3 und Absatz 5 des Luftverkehrsgesetzes gilt entsprechend.
