How do you register for the naturalisation test?
You would like to apply for German nationality? Then you must prove knowledge of the legal and social system and the living conditions in Germany. You can do this, for example, with the naturalisation test.
However, the State Office for Immigration (LEA) also accepts other proof. Find out more under the service Naturalisation - Apply for German nationality (see Further Information section).
Exempt from the test are: minors under 16, persons lacking legal capacity, and persons who cannot take the test due to a physical, mental or psychological illness or disability, or due to their age. You must provide a medical certificate for these limitations.
Important: You do not take the naturalisation test on the registration day. You will find out the available test dates when you register.

Who qualifies?
- Anyone can register for the naturalisation test. There are no special requirements.
Additional requirements

How to apply
Book an appointment at the adult education centre (Volkshochschule) to register for the naturalisation test
Bring a valid identity document and fill in the participant registration form on site
Pay the examination fee of 25.00 euros and receive a booking confirmation
Find out your test date at registration -- the test takes place on a different day
Go to the test on the test day and bring your booking confirmation
Done! After passing the test you have proof for your naturalisation

Good to know
You can take the naturalization test without having applied for naturalization first. You do not need to submit a naturalization application in order to take the test.
Die (gebührenpflichtige) Beantragung einer Einbürgerung wird dafür nicht vorausgesetzt.

You do not need a naturalization test if you have a German school diploma. A Hauptschulabschluss (secondary school leaving certificate) or higher is sufficient. A completed vocational training or university degree in Germany also counts as proof.
Der Nachweis der Kenntnisse ist auch erbracht, wenn der Ausländer einen Abschluss einer deutschen Hauptschule oder einen vergleichbaren oder höheren Schulabschluss einer deutschen allgemein bildenden Schule, eine erfolgreich abgeschlossene Ausbildung oder ein Studium nachweisen kann.

The "Leben in Deutschland" (Life in Germany) test covers the same scope as the naturalization test. You can therefore also use this test to prove your knowledge. Both tests are equally valid.
Die Grundkenntnisse der Rechts- und Gesellschaftsordnung können ferner durch einen Einbürgerungstest nachgewiesen werden, dessen Prüfungsdauer und Prüfungsumfang dem Test „Leben in Deutschland" entspricht
