The immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) of the city of Cottbus is responsible for all residence- and immigration-law matters of people without German citizenship within the city of Cottbus as well as the Spree-Neiße district. In addition to the main location in Cottbus, there is a branch office in Forst (Lausitz) that handles EU nationals and matters relating to the Freedom of Movement Act (Freizügigkeitsgesetz). Internally, the office is divided into several teams (general immigration matters, humanitarian residence). The office is not itself responsible for the initial entry of skilled workers or the accelerated skilled worker procedure.
