The Ausländerbehörde Frankfurt am Main (Frankfurt Immigration Office) is located at a central site: Kleyerstraße 86 / entrance Rebstöcker Straße 4, 60326 Frankfurt am Main. You first submit your application online through the official website of the immigration office in the application section. Your assigned case officer then sends you an appointment by post. In some departments you receive a link after submitting your application that lets you book the appointment yourself online. Walk-ins are not possible — the office works exclusively by prior appointment.

Waiting times have improved considerably in recent years. According to a report by Hessenschau, they previously reached up to 20 months; they now average a range of a few months. Despite more staff and digitisation, the workload remains high because cases can be delayed by frequently changing legal regulations and the need to coordinate with other authorities such as the Federal Employment Agency. Allow sufficient lead time when planning.

Yes. You can submit applications digitally on the authority's website in several languages. The form for issuing or extending a residence permit can also be submitted by post. Once ready, you can collect the electronic residence permit (eAT) either at the Bürgeramt Nordwest or at the immigration office itself — in both cases by appointment. You will receive two letters by post: a PIN letter and an appointment letter for collection. Without both letters, collection is not possible. According to official information, processing time for the eAT can be up to ten to twelve weeks.

The accelerated skilled-worker procedure is applied for by the employer — not the skilled worker — at the immigration office responsible for the company's registered address. A binding job offer or training contract is required. The employer concludes an agreement with the authority, which legally shortens the deadlines for recognition procedures and approval by the Federal Employment Agency. Once completed, the skilled worker can usually obtain a visa appointment at a German consulate abroad within three weeks. A dedicated Welcome Centre department within the Frankfurt Immigration Office for this procedure is not documented — it runs through the regular authority.
