The Landesverwaltungsamt Saarland operates the state's only central immigration authority (Zentrale Ausländerbehörde, ZAB) in Lebach. It is responsible for third-country nationals from the districts of Saarlouis, Merzig-Wadern, St. Wendel, and Neunkirchen, as well as statewide for asylum seekers and persons required to leave the country. Residents from the Stadtverband Saarbrücken and the Saarpfalz-Kreis are served instead by the immigration authority of the state capital Saarbrücken. A dedicated unit within the ZAB (unit 2.4) handles the accelerated skilled worker procedure and is responsible statewide for EU citizens and their family members.
