The Ausländerbehörde of the Märkischer Kreis has been responsible for all immigration matters throughout the entire district since October 2004 — including for residents of the municipalities within the district such as Lüdenscheid, Iserlohn, Altena, Halver, Kierspe, Meinerzhagen, Menden, Neuenrade, Plettenberg, Schalksmühle, and Werdohl. There is a single office location at Kreishaus II in Lüdenscheid. Internally, the department is divided into five units, which work by region of origin (including Turkey/Syria/EU, and other countries) as well as handling asylum matters and field services.
