The Landesamt für innere Verwaltung M-V (LAIV) is the central immigration authority of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is responsible for the entire federal state. The "Amt für Migration und Flüchtlingsangelegenheiten" (AMF) department is divided into three locations: Schwerin (Lübecker Str. 287) houses the department leadership and policy affairs. The Stern Buchholz location (Schwerin) serves as a branch office. Nostorf-Horst (Landkreis Ludwigslust-Parchim) is the initial reception facility for asylum seekers and handles central return management — it is not a location for regular residence matters. For skilled worker immigration, a dedicated central unit was established within LAIV in April 2024, handling all accelerated skilled worker procedures and visa procedures for third-country nationals statewide.
