You can have your residence document-GB transferred to your new passport so that the plastic card is valid again.

How do you transfer your residence document-GB to a new passport?
You have a residence document-GB and received a new passport? Then the plastic card of your residence title is no longer valid because it refers to your old passport. However, your residence title itself remains valid.
You can have the transfer done at a citizens'' office (Buergeramt) or at the State Office for Immigration. At the citizens'' office this is possible if you still have your old passport, the document was issued by the State Office for Immigration Berlin, and no more than 12 months have passed between the expiry of the old passport and the issuance of the new one.
Important: Is your residence document-GB limited and valid for only 6 months or less? Then please come for the extension first. This saves you fees and time.
Note: You can also travel abroad with your old and new passport as long as your residence title is still valid. Take both passports and the residence document-GB with you. However, check the entry and exit conditions of the destination country beforehand.

Who qualifies?
- You hold a residence document-GB and have received a new passport
Additional requirements
- Your main residence is in Berlin.
- A personal appointment is required.
- Transfer at the citizens' office is possible if: you have the old passport, the document was issued by the State Office for Immigration Berlin, no more than 12 months have passed between the expiry of the old passport and the issuance of the new one, and you have not left Germany for more than 12 consecutive months.
- If any of these requirements is not met, the State Office for Immigration is responsible for the transfer.

Good to know
The authority issues the Aufenthaltsdokument-GB to you ex officio. You do not need to apply for it separately. This applies to British nationals and their family members with a right of residence under the Withdrawal Agreement.

Your Aufenthaltsdokument-GB can be valid longer than your passport. The usual link to passport validity does not apply. A transfer is only necessary when the eAT card or the title validity expires.
Die sonst übliche Kopplung der Kartengültigkeit an die Passgültigkeit entfällt. Die eAT können daher mit einer längeren Gültigkeit als der Passgültigkeit ausgestellt werden. Ein Übertrag des eAT ist erst bei Ablauf der eAT-Karte oder der Titelgültigkeit erforderlich.

Do you need to travel or prove your right of residence before the new eAT is ready? You can receive a Fiktionsbescheinigung. The authority decides on this upon application.
Trägt ein Antragsteller vor, im Zeitraum zwischen Bestellung und Aushändigung des eAT Reisen zu müssen oder einen Nachweis über sein Aufenthaltsrecht zur Vorlage bei Arbeitgeber oder Sozialbehörden zu benötigen, kann eine Fiktionsbescheinigung ausgestellt werden.

Transfer Aufenthaltsdokument-GB to New Passport
After the appointment, it takes approximately 4 weeks until the residence document for UK nationals is issued as an electronic residence title and can be collected.
