How do you get a residence permit for the Working Holiday or Youth Mobility programme?
Germany has bilateral Working Holiday agreements with Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea. With Canada, there is a Youth Mobility agreement. The residence permit is valid for up to 12 months.
Nationals of Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and Canada can apply for the residence permit within 90 days after entry into Germany. Nationals of the Republic of Korea can only do so in exceptional cases if they already hold a residence permit in Germany.
With this residence permit, you may take on holiday jobs to finance your stay. Self-employment is also permitted.

Requirements
Who qualifies?
- You are a national of Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Canada or the Republic of Korea and meet the age requirements: Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand: 18-30 years; Republic of Korea: 18-34 years; Canada: 18-35 years (the date of application is decisive)
- Nationals of Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and Canada can apply within 90 days after entry. Nationals of the Republic of Korea only in exceptional cases if they already hold a residence permit.
Additional requirements
- You must have your main residence in Berlin.
- You must not pose a threat to public safety or order. Even fines can prevent the issuance. During an ongoing investigation, the application must not be processed.
How to apply
Submit the online application "Fixed-term residence title for employment" and upload all documents: passport copies, bank statement, rental agreement, health insurance and registration certificate
Pay the processing fee before submitting the application by credit card or PayPal
Save the application confirmation as a PDF and print it -- it certifies that your current residence title remains valid
Wait for the review by the LEA and submit any additionally requested documents
Attend the assigned appointment in person and bring all documents in original
Done! You will receive your residence permit for the Working Holiday or Youth Mobility programme.

Good to know
During your working holiday stay, you must not bring family members to Germany. This applies to all working holiday and youth mobility agreements without exception.

You can participate in the Youth Mobility programme with Canada twice. The second time, you need a different reason from the category catalogue. The second stay can follow directly after the first.
Am Programm kann zweimal teilgenommen werden. Es muss ein anderer Grund aus dem Kategorienkatalog zu Nr. 2 des Abkommens für den zweiten Aufenthalt vorliegen, der sich an den ersten Aufenthalt anschließen kann, ohne dass es einer Ausreise bedürfe.

During your working holiday stay, you may attend training and further education courses. The courses may last up to six months in total. This applies to most agreements.

Apply for Residence Permit for Working Holiday or Youth Mobility Programme
If your application is approved, you will receive an appointment. A residence permit as a sticker can be issued on site at the appointment. If issued as an electronic residence title (eAT), it takes 4 to 6 weeks until it can be collected.
