§ 24a BeschV: Professional drivers

This section applies to you if you want to work as a professional driver in Germany. This can be work in road freight transport. This can also be work in passenger transport with buses.

What is the approval? For this work you need an approval. This is a special permission.

Approval for a completed training You can get an approval for work as a professional driver. This applies to work in road freight transport. It also applies to work in passenger transport with buses. The authority decides this on a case-by-case basis. This is not a guarantee.

Approval during a qualification period You can also get an approval for work with an employer while you are still qualifying. This too is decided by the authority on a case-by-case basis. For this, all of the following four conditions must be met.

1. Your employment contract obliges you to take part in measures. Through these measures you acquire the requirements for work as a professional driver in road freight transport or in passenger transport with buses.
2. The working conditions during these measures must be designed so that you can acquire the necessary driving licence and the qualifications within 15 months. This also includes you getting the necessary documents during this time.
3. For the time after you have the driving licence and the qualifications, there must be a concrete job offer. This offer must be for work as a professional driver in road freight transport or in passenger transport with buses. It must be with the same employer.
4. You must prove that you already hold the matching driving licence for this profession in your country of origin.

If you get the approval, it is valid for up to 15 months. In a justified individual case, the approval can be extended by up to a further six months. This too is decided by the authority on a case-by-case basis.

§ 9 does not apply to you Do you have a residence permit for work as described above? Then § 9 does not apply to you.
