§ 12a FreizügG/EU: EU right of residence

The rules of this law for family members and close persons of EU citizens also apply to family members and close persons of Germans who have made sustained use of their right to freedom of movement (Article 21 TFEU).
This means: If a German citizen has lived in another EU country and then returns to Germany, their family members can receive the same rights as family members of EU citizens.
Auf Familienangehörige und nahestehende Personen von Deutschen, die von ihrem Recht auf Freizügigkeit nach Artikel 21 des Vertrages über die Arbeitsweise der Europäischen Union nachhaltig Gebrauch gemacht haben, finden die nach diesem Gesetz für Familienangehörige und für nahestehende Personen von Unionsbürgern geltenden Regelungen entsprechende Anwendung.
